Entire Ride Schedule

All summer rides leave from Chandler-Newberger Community Center unless noted as a remote start. The street address is 1028 Central St., although the building itself is nearer to Lincoln St.  There is ample street parking available on Lincoln St. in Evanston on weekends.  On weekdays, request a parking lot permit from the Chandler desk.

Please arrive by the scheduled time of the ride.  This allows time for everyone to sign-up, riders to be introduced, and the leader to be sure everyone is prepared for the ride.   The goal is for rides to roll out on the road 10 minutes after the scheduled time.

Rides will not take place place if there is snow/ice on the surface of the road, or if it's raining/snowing.

You may ride with EBC a few times before joining.  Just show up with a helmet and a bike in good mechanical condition, carry water and a spare inner tube, and be on time so the ride can start promptly.   You are expected to ride safely and courteously as outlined in EBC's guide to safe group riding and to follow the rules of the road.  Ride leaders reserve the right at their sole discretion to ask any rider who does not wear a helmet or who treats others disrespectfully to leave the club sponsored ride.  All EBC rides must have a sign-up sheet and all participating riders must sign in.

Pace: VS Very Slow 10mph, Slow 10-12mph, Moderate 13-15mph, Fast 15-17mph, Very Fast 18+mph
Pace is the nominal riding speed on the road.  The overall average speed will be slower due to stops. On fast and very fast rides you may/ be left behind if you cannot keep the pace.

The web ride schedule is updated whenever we are notified of changes or additions to club rides. To add a ride or change ride info, call or E-mail Ken (847)256-8218 rides@evanstonbikeclub.org or Jeff M. (847)948-0672  ebcbike@evanstonbikeclub.org

05/19 Wed 7:00PM   10 S EBC 2010 Ride of Silence - From Chandler - Lights Required~ Dave Barish

EBC will be participating in the 2010 Ride of Silence. The purpose of this ride is to raise awareness for road safety and to serve as a memorial to riders who have been injured or killed on the roads. We will ride in silence (other than the usual safety calls such as "car up" etc) for about 10-12 miles or about one hour. This ride will proceed at a slow pace and will loop back toward Evanston or Skokie where we will then open our mouths and discuss the ride over dinner. Think of this as a meaningful entree into our warm weather Thursday night social rides. I would like to have an open forum, like a Quaker meeting, before we ride. We will then ride in silence. It will likely be dark by the time we finish riding and will certainly be dark after dinner. Accordingly, lights are required. dbarish1957@yahoo.com

The weather for this Friday looks very promising for a 50 mile ride out to the Long Grove Café for a causal light outdoor lunch, a quick walk around Long Grove to see the spring flowers and shops, and then back by way of the Deerfield Bakery for desert. You will not ride long enough to burn off all the calories, but you should put a small dent in them for the day.

This is the ultimate eating ride of the EBC about 30 miles, three solid food stops in the beautiful homes and gardens of our fellow member hosts/hostesses, who can say no?

Come with food: an appetizer, main course (or side dishes), or a dessert to feed 6-8 riders with healthy appetites.  Our host families will be at Chandler to pick up the food at the start, if you like to drop off your dish beforehand, contact me for details.  The pace of the ride will be slow, expect to go 10 to 12 mph.  Drinks and paper goods are provided by the club, you do need to bring your own food container back, so use disposable or unbreakable ones if possible.  The dessert stop will be only 2-3 miles from Chandler, and we plan to conclude before dark so no light is needed on the bike.

I should add too, that this ride has never been cancelled before, although the riding distance can get drastically reduced in the event of adverse weather.  The eating though, will not be reduced in any event.

Note:  More information may be added to these details before the ride date.
