CBG "limited" reopening

FYI - The Road "behind" the greenhouses is not temporary. It will be the long term route for all vehicles (with the possible exception of the tour trams). They are digging up the old road to become a replacement to the shade evaluation garden that we used to enjoy before all the greenhouse work began a few years ago. There will undoubtedly be paths (either asphalt or brick) through the new garden when finished but I suspect (don't know) that they will be off limits to bikes, as are most of the other paths through cultivated areas at CBG.

There are porta-potties in at least these spots:

(1) behind the greenhouses / science building, on the right as you come from the south, and

(2) in parking lot #2, on the east side – that ‘s a little off the route, and you can’t see them from the route.

 

I missed these when I biked up there Sunday morning, although we rode past the ones in (1) twice and were looking for open restrooms.  But I saw these when I walked around with my wife with our perimeter walk ticket. There’s also some on the perimeter drive on the west side, but those are in the “no bikes” part.

 

I say “behind the greenhouses / science building” because they have ripped up part of the road which goes in front of the greenhouses / science center and are rebuilding it. The detour is the service road behind the buildings.

I confirmed that the North Branch Extension gates are open from 8am to 8pm. There are supposed to be Porta-Potties along the walking route, but I didn't see them.


FYI, the north section has that lovely open view across to the main garden & Japanese island, but the southern half is detoured BEHIND the greenhouses and construction, and was very crowded with meandering walkers when I passed through. Silver lining: the road surface is new and smooth!

The Botanic Garden will open for parking and walking the perimeter only, during limited hours this month:
June 9-11: 3-6pm (reservations already sold out)
June 14-21: 8am-8pm
June 22-23: 8-11am and 3-8pm

Discreetly added: "Bicyclists, please note: The North Branch Trail extension will be open during Garden hours in the limited reopening"
