Tuesday Moderate Ride – December 14th – 9:00 AM –Centennial Ice Rink

I’m going to lead a Moderate Ride this Tuesday that will differ in some significant ways from the usual Tuesday rides. First, we will be starting at Centennial Ice Rink (2300 Old Glenview Road, Wilmette, IL) My primary reason for starting from here is laziness. I was working from an existing cue sheet that started from that location. I did make some changes to the route, but it was easier for me to just keep the original starting location. The ride will be a couple miles shorter this way, which seemed like a good idea for a December ride. I also just wanted to try the ice rink out as a starting location for a moderate ride.

Second, there will be no food stop. (Gasp!) I am trying to avoid removing my mask indoors anywhere other than my own home. This time of year, in a time of pandemic, it is difficult finding dining options that are both comfortable and safe. So, bring some snacks to hold you over. We will make rest stops at the sled hill shelter in Techny Basin and at the western Lake Forest Metra Station.

Here is a link to the route I will be using. Ride with GPS | Bike Route Planner and Cycling Navigation App. I call it “The Northbrook—Riverwoods—Lake Forest—Highland Park Ramble. Our total distance will be 37 miles. My pace will be a moderate 13 to 15 mph.

Tuesday’s weather is promising – partly cloudy with a high temperature of 52 degrees, winds from the SSE at 10 to 15 mph and only an 8% chance of precipitation. The high temperature will probably not be reached until after we have finished riding, but it looks like it should already be up to 40 by the time we start.

Remember we are starting at Centennial Ice Rink and we will not be making a food stop.
