Tuesday Moderate Ride - October 15th - 9:00 AM - Panera

This week we are scheduled to ride to Ryerson Woods in Riverwoods. Traditionally this has been a fall color bike and hike, but predicting fall color seems like more of a fools errand every year. With the exception of a few landscape Maple cultivars, fall color is still pretty muted. Also as Will Heelan pointed out to several of us last year, when we do get fall color the best spot to see it is on Sheridan Road and not any of the places we were riding to see it. Taking all of this into consideration I billed this year's ride as a visit to Brushwood, the former Ryerson home in the preserve.

As it turns out Brushwood is hosting an art exhibit - "Lean on Me: Tree-inspired Artwork by Military Veterans." I have not seen the exhibit. It opened today, and I did not feel up to crashing the opening reception in my cycling duds. (I must be losing my edge.) On Tuesday people can take a look at the exhibit, look around the house, or enjoy the sights and sounds outdoors when we make a brief stop at Brushwood.

Our total distance will be around 40 miles. My pace will be a moderate 13 -  15 mph. With enough interest and a willing leader we will have a second group traveling at a slightly faster pace. Here is a link to the route I will be using: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/31303102.

Lunch will be at Greek Feast. (Again? Gasp!)

The predicted weather for Tuesday looks reasonably good - cloudy with a high of 62 degrees and winds from the SW at 10 to 20 mph. At present the forecast has a very slight chance of rain precisely at the time that we would be starting out, but I confidently (and rashly) predict that this will not materialize. If it should prove necessary to cancel the ride because of the weather, I will post an announcement to the listserv before 8 AM.
