Rides

Sat April 13 Mod: Cantigny Park, Wheaton; departs...
Joanne Davis

Ride leaders: Joanne Davis and Diana Montigny.

We'll meet at 8:45 AM at Madison Meadows Athletic Center in Lombard 550 E. Madison St., 630-620-7322 (about 22 miles from Evanston) and then depart on our bicycles to Cantigny Park (11 miles away) using lightly traveled streets and part of the Illinois Prairie Trail. Some sections of the trail are hard packed limestone so you may  expect some drive train dirt accumulation.
Being early in the season, the pace will most likely be at the lower end of moderate (12-13 mph)    Expect to arrive at Cantigny around 10AM.

Cantigny is the former estate of Joseph Medill and his grandson Colonel Robert R. McCormick, publishers of the _Chicago Tribune, and is open free of charge to the public. We will take a tour of the home, and visit the First Division Museum.

The Robert R. McCormick Museum, a historic house museum interpreting the life and legacy of the Colonel. The mansion reveals the public and private sides of one of America’s wealthiest and most philanthropic families.

The First Division Museum, dedicated to the history of the Big Red One, the famed 1st Infantry Division of the U.S. Army. Many exhibits are interactive and all of them provide fascinating insights about America’s military, past and present.

We'll have lunch at Berties Bistro in the Visitor's Center http://cantigny.org/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/Berties-Bistro_menu_2018a.pdf
Please bring or wear soft soled shoes when touring the buildings (instead of cleats).

Probably depart Cantigny around 2 PM and ride back to our cars at Madison Meadows in Lombard arriving around 3:30. Expect to be back to Evanston by 4:30 or so. Yes... a  long, full  day. Questions: Joanne Davis cell for the day: 773-848-3008
