The Friends of the Green Bay Trail is a 10 year old non-profit organization that sees themselves as environmental stewards. Their mission is to promote the Green Bay Trail as a healthy natural corridor for the well-being of individuals and surrounding communities and they believe in creating, restoring and protecting the health of the natural habitat, the importance of connecting individuals and communities with nature, and in developing partnerships. Betsy Leibson, a member of the group’s board of trustees and trail volunteer, will share information about trail initiatives, programs and current opportunities to get involved.

8/20 - 7:30pm
Bike Lane Uprising by Christina Whitehouse
Bike Lane Uprising is a cyclist-led civic tech platform for reporting bike lane obstructions.  While many miles of bike lanes exist, they are often blocked by vehicles that use them as free parking.   Since launching over a year ago, over 7,000 bike lane obstructions have been submitted by cyclists in Chicago and 60 other cities to the database and have identified over 1,000 repeat offenders.  Volunteers work with local organizations, city departments, and companies to prevent obstructions resulting in safer public roadways for cycling.  Christina Whitehouse, founder, will share the story of how it got started, what it has accomplished, and plans for the future.
