International Bike Trip from Vienna to Budapest
Barbara Anderson

Hi Evanston Bike Club Members,

My name is Barb Anderson. I joined EBC after retiring in May in hopes of participating on

weekday rides. Due to traveling and family commitments, I have not been able to join any

rides this summer. I am one of the ride leaders with the Let’s Ride Meetup group. In the past

several years, I have been organizing international bike trips. I organized a bike trip to the

Loire Valley along with touring in Paris. Two years ago, we biked on the Atlantic Coast of

Portugal along with touring in Barcelona and Madrid. Two of the EBC club members,

Richard White and Joe Nordstrom, have participated on past trips.

Next summer we will be riding from Vienna to Budapest with options to tour Vienna before

the ride and Budapest after the ride. The dates for the entire trip will be from June 4 to June

16. If you only want to do the biking part of the trip, it would be from June 6 to June 14.

Biking is a great way to really see the country and meet people. I have a few openings for

the trip this year and want to extend an invitation to EBC members who might be

interested.

Attached is the itinerary which includes pricing for the trip. There are many options for the

trip:

1. Do the whole trip and include airfare.

2. Do the whole trip but you book your own airfare.

3. Do only the bike trip (you would need to book your own airfare)

I use two companies:

1. CETA is the company that takes care of transportation to and from USA and the

touring activities (and hotels) in Vienna and Budapest

2. Randovelo is the bike company that takes care of everything during the bike trip (I

have distinguished Randovelo information and pricing by highlighting their

information in yellow.

I had an information meeting in early August. Currently, I still have some openings. I would

need to know if you are interested by September 15th. Deposits will be due by October 15th.

The complete payment schedule and requirements are in the document. Here is my

contact information: banderson1954@gmail.com and Phone: 563-590-4707 if you have

questions.

Thank you,

Barb Anderson

We did this ride several years ago. It’s more urban than we expected (Duh! The Rhine has had a few years to populate!). But lots of bike paths, and it’s all downhill (yes, rivers run downhill). And the pastries are good on both ends.

Two trips that we really enjoyed were to Sardinia — did that one twice 18 years apart, regular bike the first time, e-bike the second — and Slovenia.  The Sardinia trip was through a local company, Dolcevita Bike Tours, and the second was through Cycling Safaries (Irish).  Both beautiful terrain, and Slovenia interesting historically — lots of WWI/Hemingway history.
