Tuesday Moderate Ride – June 30th – 9:00 AM – Panera – Change from the Schedule
It is time for our annual pre-Fourth of July ride to the Liberty Restaurant in Libertyville, but before we do something rash, let us consider the forecast. At 9:00 AM the temperature in Wilmette is expected to already be 83 degrees. By lunchtime in Libertyville the temperature will be around 89 or 90 degrees. It does not sound like a good day for one of the longer and more challenging of our Tuesday rides.
Rather than the scheduled 51-mile ride to Libertyville, I intend to lead a 41-mile ride to Lake Bluff with lunch at Bluffington’s Café. Both the outward bound and the return route will stay relatively close to the big lake in hopes of cooler temperatures and a finish before the maximum temperature is reached. With the wind out of the SW, however, it is likely to be very warm everywhere in the Chicago area. Gobs of sunscreen and lots of fluids will be in order.
