Because Friday is the beginning of the 4th of July holiday weekend, and because our destination brewpub actually opens at a decent hour (11:00 a.m.) we will beat a bit of the heat, and depart from Chandler at 10:00 a.m. this Friday.
Our route to Steep Ravine Brewing Company (nee Ravinia Brewing), at 528 Roger Williams Avenue in Highland Park will be quite direct, in the interest of allowing everyone to both ride and have the rest of your day available for fireworks, picnics, and the like; we'll use a pretty standard route, which is included here:
Steep Ravine - July 3
| | Steep Ravine - July 3Chandler Center in Evanston to Steep Ravine Brewing, directly back. - 20.6 mi, +246 ft. Bike ride in Evanston, IL |

We will cover approximately 21 miles, and as usual, will ride at a moderate pace.
Dining Notes: Historically, we've had good meals at the Steep Ravine Brewpub - the tacos are freshly made and tasty, and the burgers pass muster as well. Alas, the vegetarian options are a bit scarce. The entire menu, beer, food, and drinks can be found here:

Beer Notes: The beer menu is ever changing at Steep Ravine; they have shifted their brewing to a more seasonal approach, and have introduced several new beers since my last visit. While I will miss their Cream Ale (a session beer that was a star last summer) I am thrilled that Flight of the Rooster, a Belgian farmhouse ale has reappeared on the menu; if you are saison fan, and cannot visit Is/Was Brewing on Ravenswood, this is as good a local saison as you can find in Chicagoland.
For those in search of lower alcohol levels, their Pilsner and their Gose both qualify as session beers, and the Starseeker is a solid middle of the road lager. There are also two guest ciders on tap at the moment, which should be a good alternative for those seeking something without hops.
REMINDER: this ride ONLY starts one hour earlier than my standard brewpub rides.
Unlike myself, I realize that the rest of you actually have lives!
Happy 250th birthday, United States!
