EBC will participate in the Ride of Silence on Wednesday, May 18. This is in cooperation with the Skokie Bike Network and Wheel and Sprocket. The easing of Covid-19 has allowed us to have a live ride with real riders but the continued presence of the pandemic will not allow Wheel and Sprocket to invite us back into the shop for beverages and pizza as they have done so in the past. They need to protect their employees.
The Ride of Silence is to remember and honor those who have been injured or killed while riding their bicycles. We will meet at Wheel and Sprocket, 1027 Davis, Evanston, IL at 7 pm. We will invite any of the riders to talk about why they are riding if they are so moved. We will ride the same route we have used in recent years through Evanston and Skokie. The ride is 11 miles at a casual pace and is done in silence. If a voice is needed for the safety of our riders we will encourage anybody to break the silence for that purpose. After the ride we will have a moment of loudness and then ride home.
A light is not required but is strongly suggested and will be needed to get home after the ride. I will have lights on during the entire ride and encourage other riders to do the same.
