Please Take a Minute Now to Support Safer, Easier ...

Note that it is not just stop signs as yield signs but red lights as stop signs too. It is the full Idaho stop. As Will said, it goes to Committee tomorrow morning at 10. So two things, do it now AND tell all your friends.

If you would like to see Illinois pass legislation to allow bicyclists to treat stop signs as yields signs, please read the following email from Bike Walk Wilmette.

To show your support for the legislation, there is a very short form to complete and submit.

Responses must be submitted by tomorrow at 10 am. Do it NOW, if you support the legislation.

Support Safer, Easier Biking and Walking in Illinois

Two bills are currently in the House Transportation Committee on Vehicles & Safety. A show of support is needed to get them to the House floor

  • Lowering default speed limit in Illinois urban areas (HB 3530): Given that excessive speed is the most common factor in serious and fatal crashes, reducing the state’s default speed limit from 30 mph to 20 mph would eliminate an enormous number of traffic fatalities.
  • Safety stop for bicyclists (HB 3649): This bill would allow bicyclists to treat a stop sign as a yield sign, assuming there are no traffic hazards and that it is safe to proceed.
  • Here is more from Active Transportation Alliance on the need for both of these bills.

You can help!

It Only Takes a Minute

In box I, add your name. If you are not representing an organization as an employee, add “self.“

In box II, type “self” or “n/a.”

In box III, leave the “description” field alone. Select “proponent.”

In box IV, check “record of appearance only.”

Agree to the terms of agreement, and then hit “create slip” in the lower right hand corner.

Thank you very much for your support.
