Rides

Ride up to the Botanic Garden for the Kite Festival. We will enjoy a synchronized kite flying team performance set to music by the Chicago Fire Kite Team. See a video here: Chicago Fire Kite Team @ Botanic. There will be very simple food (sandwiches and hot dogs) available at the festival.  We will ride at the high end of moderate - 15 mph. Our very indirect and circuitous route to the Botanic Garden will head north on Sheridan Road taking some familiar routes to Highland Park but with a few different twists and turns. We will meander into some neat little nooks and crannies and travel on a couple of obscure little bike paths which you may not have seen before. Around 11:30 am we will enter Botanic Garden from the north lock up our bikes and head out to the meadow for the Kite Festival. Around 1:00 pm we will leave the festival and head south through the forest preserves and take the scenic route through Indian Hills golf course getting back to Wilmette around 2:30 pm for an optional stop at Homer's Ice Cream in Wilmette. Please bring a lock for your bike and be prepared for about a 5 minute walk out to the meadow for the Kite Festival. It is wise to bring a hat since we will be sitting in the grass out in the sun watching the kites. For more info follow this link - Kite Festival
